Tuesday April 1st Update
Jeffrey got to hold his baby girl today, such a special birthday treat for him! Her feedings are being increased pretty rapidly, she's up to a whole ounce every three hours, which is good. But she has had some issues with digestion and spitting up her food. They worry that she could aspirate some of the food into her lungs, which potentially could cause complications, most seriously pneumonia. She briefly got moved into an intermediate care room this evening, but got moved back into a more intensive care room because her oxygen levels desaturated a couple of times tonight. What this means is that she is holding her breath long enough to cause her to have trouble catching it again. The nurse had to hold an oxygen bag close to her face so that she could continue breathing on her own. This is typical of premies, scary nonetheless. Everything else is stable. She began to regain weight, only an ounce, but we'll take anything we can get. We hope that she will continue to fight to breath on her own, without the aid of machines or tubes. We'll know more in the morning. With premies, for every step forward there is often a step back. Her breathing is our main concern right now. Keep the prayers coming...
